The GitDealFlow Scout Score is a backwards-looking heuristic that ranks any GitHub user's ability to spot early startups. It is computed from the user's public starring history against approximately 75 validated unicorns — startups that reached a funding round, acquisition, or $1B valuation. The score counts how many of those unicorns the user starred before the breakout event, weighted by how early. A score of 90+ means the user consistently starred future unicorns well before they were obvious.
Scout Score matters because founder and investor taste is otherwise impossible to measure objectively. A high Scout Score doesn't predict future success, but it does prove a track record of noticing startups before they broke out. Scouts and angels use it to demonstrate their own taste; funds use it as one signal when evaluating operator-scout candidates.
