# About GitDealFlow: The Signal Behind the Velocity Verdict

> GitDealFlow is an independent deal-flow signal tool. It reads public GitHub engineering activity across 350+ startups in 15 sectors and flags the ones accelerating 21-47 days before the round. Methodology, dataset, and author identity are public and verifiable.

# About GitDealFlow

The signal behind the Velocity Verdict

## You do not need another startup database. You need a signal you can trust earlier.

In short: you can trust this signal earlier because none of it asks for your trust. The ranking method, called Code-Side Sourcing (published in full at [signals.gitdealflow.com/code-side-sourcing](https://signals.gitdealflow.com/code-side-sourcing)), is the practice of using public repository-velocity data as a leading indicator of venture-stage outcomes, surfacing fundraises 21 to 47 days before pitch decks circulate.

The dataset is CC BY 4.0 and downloadable, and the metric it ranks by, change in 14-day GitHub commit velocity, has historically preceded fundraise announcements by three to six weeks.

GitDealFlow exists because most tools get stronger after the story is already public. This product was built around a different question: what changed before the round starts feeling obvious, and how can you check that without taking a vendor's word for it?

## Who Is Behind This

I'm The Data Nerd. I won't tell you my real name and that's on purpose, the methodology is the protagonist, I'm just the storyteller. Engineer for fifteen years, angel-checker since deal #5. The whole product rests on whether the signal is real, not on whether you find me charismatic.

Here is the part that matters most for you: you never read a line of code: the read is done for you. The whole job is to turn what engineers are doing in public into plain business English you can act on. We move on the engineering signal before the round, without reading a line of code.

The Data Nerd
Engineer-investor. Wrote the SSRN paper (n=219). Replies in batches. Won't do podcasts. Lives behind a regression.

## You do not need my name. You need a trail you can verify.

Pseudonymity is not the same as anonymity-from-accountability. Every claim this product makes rests on a public, versioned, citable trail, not on the word of a person you cannot look up. Each of these is a real identifier you can follow to the underlying work:

- ORCID: persistent author identifier: [0009-0002-2222-4112](https://orcid.org/0009-0002-2222-4112)

A single pseudonymous byline backed by nine verifiable identifiers is a stronger trust signal than a real name with nothing behind it. The proof surface is public; the data is inspectable; the methodology is reproducible against the Zenodo dataset.

## We keep score in public.

Most data vendors only show you their wins. Every Monday we name 10 startups whose GitHub engineering acceleration crossed our signal threshold. We then grade every pick in public at the 60-day and 90-day mark, raise, acquisition, product launch, or nothing. The scorecard includes the misses, not just the hits.

Read the live scorecard, the "Acceleration Watch", at [signals.gitdealflow.com/predicted](https://signals.gitdealflow.com/predicted). If the signal stops working, you will see it here before we would ever want you to.

## What You Are Looking At

### You should be able to verify the claim

If a signal asks for trust without proof, it is not good enough. The methodology is public. The proof surface is public. The data is inspectable. You should be able to get a cleaner read, not just a prettier promise.

### You should get timing, not just records

Most startup databases are strongest after the story already exists. This product exists because the useful question is earlier: what changed before the round starts feeling obvious?

### You should not need another heavy workflow

The goal is not to trap you in another dashboard. The goal is to help you notice what matters, decide faster, and move on with less noise.

## Proof, Not Promises

- 350+ organizations watched out in the open, across 15 sectors, every single week.

- 219 fundraises the engineering signal preceded, documented in the SSRN research panel.

- 21-47 days median head start before the round, measured in the data, not promised in a pitch.

- Open dataset (CC BY 4.0) and methodology on SSRN and Zenodo, check every call yourself.

Read the full methodology at [signals.gitdealflow.com/code-side-sourcing](https://signals.gitdealflow.com/code-side-sourcing). The SSRN paper is at [papers.ssrn.com](https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=6606558).

## What GitDealFlow Is Not

Not a fund. Not an investment advisor. Not affiliated with any startup accelerator program, Y Combinator, Techstars, or 500 Global. The term "engineering acceleration" refers to the quantitative GitHub signal, not to an accelerator.

GitDealFlow surfaces data; investors make decisions. It is not a replacement for Crunchbase or PitchBook, those record rounds after they happen. This is a leading indicator that fires before the round exists.
