Scout Score: Find the Next Unicorn Before Anyone Else Does
Published 2026-07-30 · By The Data Nerd · 8 min read
The Scout Score is GitDealFlow's proprietary measure of an investor's ability to identify breakout startups before they become obvious. By analyzing a GitHub user's starring history against ~75 validated unicorn companies, it quantifies scouting effectiveness on a 0–100 scale.
How the Scout Score Works
For any GitHub username, the Scout Score computes how many of ~75 validated unicorns the user starred before they were widely known. A score of 80+ means you consistently catch companies in their acceleration phase.
Scout Score + Live Signals
The Scout Score is most powerful when combined with raw engineering signals. These trending startups would have been found early by a high-scoring scout:
fleetbase
Engineering hiring burst · +1600%

Infrastructure buildout · +999%

How to Use It
- Check your own score. Visit the Scout Score page.
- Follow high-score scouts. Find investors whose pattern-matching aligns with your thesis.
- Combine with acceleration signals. When a high-score scout stars a trending startup, it is a double-conformation signal.
- Track improvement. As you discover accelerating startups, your score improves — compounding your edge.
The Scout Score API is available via the MCP server (get_scout_receipts tool).
